This is the homepage for our Physical Education Website at Brighten Academy Charter school. Our goal at Brighten Academy is to teach our students the necessary skills to live active healthy lifestyles. We teach our students a variety of motor skills and sport skills along with a component of health and fitness that will allow our students to be successful at maintaining a level of physical fitness. Most importantly we teach many life skills in Physical Education that will provide for our students the opportunity to excel in real world situations. These life skills include sportsmanship, teamwork, work ethic, responsibility, and accountability. Ultimately our students learn what it means to demonstrate Character.
"Ability may take you to the top, but it takes Character to keep you there." -John Wooden
Elementary Physical Education (K-5) Students at the elementary level are able to develop and improve their locomotor and fine motor skills as they participate in fitness and sport activities that will keep them up and moving. We also start to build the foundations needed to begin different sport skills. We teach students skills such as throwing and catching, dribbling a basketball, dribbling a soccer ball, etc.
Middle School Physical Education (6-8) At the middle school level we are able to start exploring the different sports in more detail as we teach students the fundamentals of different sport skills while also teaching them the rules, strategies, and tactics that are used in these different sports. Students will also participate in a fitness project during our fitness unit which will provide for them the opportunity to set a fitness and nutritional goal, design a fitness plan, monitor their exercise and diet, and evaluate whether or not they have reached their goals.
What Students Will Need
Students will need to wear proper tennis shoes that abide by our school dress code every day they have PE. Students are welcome to bring their own water bottle with their name on it. We have a designated area that we place the water bottles during class.
Students in 6th – 8th Grade will be dressing out for PE. Below is what they will need:
• Navy Blue Athletic Shorts (no shorter than 2 inches above knee) or Navy Blue Athletic Pants.
• Red, White, Navy, or Spirit Shirt
• Tennis Shoes (they must abide by the same dress code as in their other classes- shoes must be predominately white, navy blue, black, gray, or brown).
It is recommended that students have a small gym bag to carry their PE clothes in. We have lockers that students can use while they are in class, however students cannot leave their stuff in lockers overnight.
