As a staff, we have decided to make one of our school improvement goals to focus on instructing and modeling the 7 Cs throughout the school year.
Each month we will be focusing on a different area of the 7 C's curriculum. For example, in August we utilized our assembly time to discuss and review synonyms, examples, stories, and share personal examples of commitment. The classroom teachers also discussed the importance of commitment to learning each day in their classrooms. We will continue to focus on a different "C" (character, creativity, community, critical thinking, community, culture, and curiosity) each month. We are looking forward to celebrating the 7 Cs regularly, and we hope that this helps to meet our students' emotional and academic needs.
We will award students a "Green Shirt" for earning a 3 in each area of the 7 Cs on their report cards as well as completing the 7 Cs Deck. This enables the students the opportunity to extend their learning about the 7 Cs and demonstrate understanding of our guiding principles.
In order to earn a Green Shirt your child must:
- Earn all 3s in each area of the 7 Cs for 2nd semester
- Complete 2 tasks on each trait card of the 7 Cs Deck (for a total of 14 tasks)
The following rules and guidelines apply for receiving credit for the 7C's tasks:
- Tasks should be completed during the current school year.
- Tasks should be completed by the student. We value student work and do not expect perfection. Students should be able to fully explain and share their activities with the class. If students are unable to do this they will not receive credit for the activity.
- Tasks MAY NOT be school assignments, field trips, or required activities from the school. Remember, the purpose is for the student to extend his/her learning.
- You may not count the same task in two different areas. Club leaders will advise to exceptions to this rule.
- All tasks must be verified by the appropriate adult (teacher, coach, club sponsor, parent, etc.).
- Supporting evidence (when possible) must be presented to the class. For example, if your child creates a scrapbook then he/she will bring the scrapbook into class and share it with the students. Please allow time for presentation well before the deadline date. To respect learning time, students are expected to get teacher's permission and recommendations for an appropriate time to share with the class.
- Make sure your child's teacher knows your child has something to present for the deck. The teachers sometimes are not aware if your child is just sharing something special or if it is to count for the deck. Please make sure your child has his/her deck when presenting projects to the class so that the teacher may verify.
- This year 7 tasks will be due December 9th for students to attend our Green Party and the remaining 7 tasks will be due in April to receive a Green Shirt. If a student does not complete 7 tasks by December 9th, he or she is still eligible to complete the deck and receive a Green Shirt if all 14 tasks are completed by April 13th. Completed decks are due no later than April 13th. We highly recommend that you have your child complete the tasks related to the school focus each month.
We are committed to increasing awareness about the importance of our 7 Cs, and we are confident that this will help to improve our school culture and instruction. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions related to the 7 C Deck or criteria for the Green Shirt.
