Frequently Asked Questions about Our Enrollment Process:
- When do you accept applications? We hold Open Enrollment annually February 1 - 15. This is a registration period for our annual Lottery, which typically occurs on the first Monday in March. We will no longer accept entries to the current school year wait list once enrollment for the next school year has begun.
- How can students get their name on the list? Simply complete the online registration form that is accessible annually Feb. 1 - 15 through our school website.
- What happens at the Lottery? The registered names are randomly sorted on the night of the Lottery, and these results are certified as our Priority and Wait Lists for the next school year.
- Who gets priority status? Children of staff and Governing Board members are placed in open positions first, then siblings of current BACS students, and then children of new families to Brighten.
- What if one child gets in but not my other child? Once one child is placed in a class, any other children from the household move to the prioritized Sibling wait list.
- How many spots do you draw for during the Lottery? The number of available spots varies from year to year. We take into account class size and spots that are filled with prioritized enrollments. Typically we announce the number of available spots on the night of the Lottery.
- What happens if my student's name is called during the Lottery? First, we will call out all names that have registered online during the registration period. After those students are randomly sorted, we will call out students who will be placed in a homeroom, and into available spots. We will then call out every name for that grade level, from the randomly sorted wait list. This determines which students to contact next, as spots become available over the summer and into the school year.
- Can you apply for any grade level? Yes! Open Enrollment and the Lottery apply to all grade levels at BACS: Kindergarten - 8th grade.
- I missed the Feb. 15 online registration deadline; what can I do? After the Lottery, we open another registration link that will permit you to add your student's information to the bottom of the wait lists that were generated on the night of the Lottery.
- Can I attend the Lottery? Yes, the date and time will be posted on our website.
