¡Saludos a todos! My name is Ansley Mundy, and this will be my second year teaching at Brighten! I have six years of teaching experience here in Georgia, and two years abroad in Madrid, Spain.
I graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Applied Linguistics, and from Georgia College with a Master of Arts in Teaching. I am certified to teach grades K-12 Spanish. Though I have specialized and dedicated most of my linguistic background to Spanish, I am interested in all language and culture, including English language grammar and history. I hope to create an environment in which students are able to gain a life-long passion for language and culture. At home, I spend time with husband Trevor, my son Felix (5), my daughter Eleanor (3), my cats Beatrix and Remy, and my dog Sadie. Aside from travel, I love cooking, hiking, and gardening. |

Elementary Curriculum
This year, we will be using a wonderful curriculum called "Mundo de Pepita". Each unit will begin with a mini-book comprised of comprehensible input, meaning Spanish language the students can understand. We will come back to our mini-books several times over a series of weeks, building more vocabulary and putting it to use in real-world activities through speaking, reading, writing, and listening.

Middle School - Spanish I
Beginning in 7th grade, interested students may choose to participate in the Spanish I program. This is a two-year commitment over 7th and 8th grade where students will have the opportunity to complete Spanish I for high school credit. This means that students would be able to begin high school at the Spanish II level.
Our curriculum, called Somos, focuses on comprehensible input, meaning that while most of the class will be in Spanish, students will be able to understand 95% of what they are hearing or reading. We accomplish this by recycling vocabulary in context until words and phrases begin to "just sound right" in Spanish rather than having students memorize grammar charts and long vocabulary lists. The curriculum also teaches culture simultaneously with the language, allowing students to gain a greater depth of understanding by presenting it in a more natural way.
