Douglas County Schools Meal Distribution
The Douglas County School System served up 17,760 meals on Wednesday as part of its effort to keep feeding students while school is out due to the coronavirus.
All children ages 0-18 are being given a five-day supply of food for breakfast and lunch until students return to school. The program is taking place from 9-11 a.m. every Wednesday. Students must be in the vehicle to receive their meals. high schools — Alexander, Chapel Hill, Douglas County, Lithia Springs and New Manchester. new schools — Stewart Middle, Winston Elementary, Eastside Elementary, Turner Middle, Fairplay Middle and North Douglas Elementary. |

UPDATES DUE TO CORONAVIRUS HEALTH EMERGENCY
The Douglas County Board of Commission Chair Dr. Romona Jackson Jones amended an emergency order Tuesday morning to temporary close county facilities to the general public, but the government will still be operating under specific guidelines in an effort to slow the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Douglas County staff and employees will continue to report on-site but will only be available to the public electronically or via telephone. All county information and online services will be available through the county website, celebratedouglascounty.com. Other County staff will be working using telecommuting options when available. Essential County services, including Public Safety, Meals On Wheels for seniors, will continue operating. County Libraries are offering drive thru service.
The Tax and Tag Office will be closed on Wednesday, March 18, 19, 20 for deep cleaning purposes and reopen, Monday, March 23.

The Douglas County Judicial Court Systems has released the following update on its operations:
- Under the order of Chief Justice Harold D. Melton, all filing deadlines for cases in Georgia have been postponed through April 13, 2020. The judges therefore encourage those who would otherwise come to the courthouse in person to wait until after that date.
- To the extent feasible, the Superior Court will remain open to address essential functions, and court should give priority to matters necessary to protect health, safety, and liberty of individuals.
- Due to precautions amid the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and pursuant to the Statewide Judicial Emergency order dated March 14, 2020, all non-essential court hearings through April 13, 2020 are hereby cancelled.
- The following Superior Court hearing dates are cancelled until further notice: March 30 2020 Criminal Calendars; March 31 2020 Civil Calendars; April 1 2020 Criminal and Civil Calendars; April 2 2020 Criminal and Civil Calendars.
- Cases will be rescheduled, and the Clerk of Court will send notice of the new hearing dates.
- The courts will not conduct hearings in the following cases:
a. Any civil or domestic case
b. Adoption cases
c. Any non-urgent criminal matters. - The court will postpone all family violence hearings until after April 13, 2020.
- The office of Tammy Howard, the Clerk of the Superior Court and State, will be open normal hours to receive filings, however, parties should use mail or e-filing, if possible. The phone number is 770-920-7252.

- The Superior Court judges are working in their offices, and they are reviewing their cases. The judges will continue to deal with search warrant applications from law enforcement. They will continue to deal with other matters that do not require hearings such as uncontested final divorces with motions for judgments on the pleadings and any other consent orders.

The Clerks' office is 770-920-7245. The email address is [email protected].
The Magistrate Court will be open for filings, however, there will be no dispossessory hearings or small claims trials until after April 13, 2020. If you need to contact the Magistrate Court, call Susan Conner at 770-920-7540. The Magistrate Court will continue to handle all law enforcement warrant applications. Civilian (non-law enforcement) warrant applications can be filed but will be heard after April 13, 2020.
The Probate Court will be open to receive filings; however, it will not issue any new or renewal weapon permits. The weapon permit renewal date will be extended.
