EL Education Credentialed school

In 2018, Brighten Academy earned the EL Education Credential.  The hallmark of EL Education’s approach to reinventing school is an expanded definition of student achievement that combines student character and high-quality work with mastery of knowledge and skills. The EL Education Credential recognizes schools that have attained remarkable achievement impacts with all students in each of these the areas.  The link below will take you to our Credentialing website which details how Brighten Academy is a leader in student achievement in each EL area.
“The EL Education Credential marks a milestone on each school’s journey to put character and quality work on equal footing with the mastery of knowledge and skills. The recognition represents a multi-year focus on the three dimensions of student achievement and is proof that there doesn't have to be a trade-off between challenge and joy in teaching and learning.”

Mark Conrad, Chief Schools Officer at EL Education

BACS EL Credentialing Website

An EL Education school culture is planned for, developed, and sustained through practices that bring the community together, promote shared understandings, and encourage all community members to become crew, not passengers. Students in EL schools are known well and supported by adults. In EL schools, each student is known well by at least one adult within the school. One structure for developing this relationship—and supporting students socially, emotionally, and academically—is crew.

Community Circle is time spend as grade levels band coming together to meet other students outside of their grade level and to hear about what is happening in other classrooms and crews.
